Container Repair vs. Recycle and Replace

Clean and repair or recycle

If you are looking to repair or recycle and replace your damaged bulk containers, RPP Containers can help with either option.  With the rising cost of both new and used containers, many customers are looking for a repair option to save money for the containers they currently use. If your containers are damaged beyond repair, we can recycle your damaged containers, give you credit for the material, and provide new or refurbished containers as a replacement.

Form-Fit-Function Inspection

Inspection points for bulk containers

Inspection Points:

  1. Feet and corners
  2. Fork straps
  3. Hinges/latches
  4. Sidewalls
  5. Drop doors

If you are interested in repairing or recycling and replacing your current containers, the first step is to reach out to an RPP Containers representative. We will then have you set up a shipment to the RPP Containers facility, where we will evaluate your containers to see if they are repairable or damaged beyond repair. Containers that are damaged beyond repair will show damage to the base of the containers in the form of cracks, holes, forklift damage, etc. Any damage to fork straps (runners) will be scrapped. If a container is missing multiple walls or doors, has large holes, or large cracks, they will also be scrapped. All scrapped containers will be recycled, and that material will be used to make new containers.

What happens if the containers fail inspection?

Remove latches, hinges, and metal

We will remove any metal, latches, springs, hinges, etc., and then weigh the HDPE material for those scrapped containers. Once we have a weight on that material, we will provide you with the weight and rate per lbs. of material that we can offer you. Please note that this cost will vary depending on the current cost of HDPE. We will then give you credit for the material that we have scrapped. You can use this credit to purchase new or refurbished containers to replenish your stock.

What happens if containers pass inspection?

Clean approved containers

If your containers are not damaged beyond repair, we will start the repair process.  If there are cracks on the walls or doors that are small enough to be welded, our repair team will weld the crack and repair any damage that does not hinder the container's structural integrity. We can replace a door or a wall when our used stock parts are available. We can also replace any missing or broken door latches, wall latches, door hinges, and wall hinges.

When our team has completed the repair process, we will inspect each container to ensure they are functioning properly and ready for use.  We also have the capability to power wash the containers for a small fee.  If you would like to purchase additional latches or hinges, we have those available for certain container styles.

How do I start this process?

If you are interested in selling your used containers to RPP Containers for a credit and do not need to replenish your stock, we can also help you with this. To start this process, you can contact an RPP Containers representative to set up a shipment to us to start the inspection process.

If you have any questions about our container repair or our recycle and replace programs, please give us a call, or reach out to us through our website on our chat feature.
